Erin Russell is the owner and manager of The Russell Firm. She maintains a national intellectual property, technology and privacy litigation practice that includes, among other intellectual property, technology and privacy matters, defending alleged BitTorrent downloaders and subpoena targets in mass BitTorrent cases in both federal and state courts. Ms. Russell was born in Madison, Wisconsin and grew up in Green Bay, Wisconsin. She has lived in Chicago for most of her adult life, except for the five years she spent living and practicing law in Atlanta, Georgia. However, she maintains strong ties to the Green Bay community visiting family and supporting the Green Bay Packers.
Ms. Russell represents non-party subpoena targets and John Doe defendants in cases in federal courts throughout Illinois, Wisconsin, Georgia and Colorado, and state courts in Illinois and Georgia. She provides consultation and representation to subpoena targets in downloader and BitTorrent cases, filing motions to quash and motions for protective orders to protect Internet subscribers from abusive litigation tactics on the part of the motion picture and adult film industries. She also represents individuals in defamation and privacy litigation, and cases involving online communications.
Ms. Russell is licensed to practice law in the States of Illinois and Georgia, and is admitted to the United States District Courts of the Northern District of Illinois, Central District of Illinois, Southern District of Illinois, Northern District of Georgia, Middle District of Georgia, Eastern District of Wisconsin, Western District of Wisconsin and District of Colorado. Ms. Russell is also admitted to the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago.
Ms. Russell also provides federal local counsel services in all matters pending in the United States District Court for the Northern and Central Districts of Illinois. She was selected as a Super Lawyers Rising Star in 2006, 2009 and again in 2014.
